Crime log Feb. 1 to Feb. 9

Every week, Otterbein360 will bring you coverage of crime within the Otterbein community reported by both the Otterbein and the Westerville Police Departments. Information below is compiled from the Otterbein University Police Daily Crime Log and the Westerville Media Log between the weeks of Feb. 1 and Feb. 9, 2014.

Westerville Media Log:
A man called the Westerville Police on Feb. 1 to report a possible burglary at a store on N. State Street near Main Street. The responding officer made contact with the man who had called while he was holding the back of suspect’s tan sweater. The caller said to the officer, “This is the guy who’s been destroying the Uptown!” The officer arrested and later released the suspect due to lack of evidence. The suspect denied any wrongdoing. The officer later saw a broken flower pot in front of another business on N. State Street near Main Street. The officer also observed damage on a wicker chair in front of a business at the intersection of N. State Street and Main Street. There are no suspects for the case, and no further action will be taken.

After reports of a robbery at a restaurant in the 400 block of S. State Street, police set up a perimeter around Charring Cross apartment complex, where a robbery suspect had gone before. A car traveling over the speed limit was pulled over near the complex with passengers matching the suspect’s description. Three suspects were arrested. One suspect confessed to robbing Subway with a large kitchen knife. One person is charged with one count of aggravated robbery, and two others are charged with complicity to aggravated robbery.
