Otterbein men's basketball falls to Hiram 87-83

The Otterbein Men’s basketball team looked to get their season started on a high note Tuesday night as they traveled up to Hiram to take on the Terriers of Hiram University, but ultimately fell, 87-83.

There were 11 missed scoring opportunities for the Cardinals as the trailed for most of the first half, 41-37.

In the second half, the Cardinals maintained a steady lead over the Terriers for more than five minutes.  A late rally by Hiram in the waning minutes sealed the Cardinals’ fate as the Terriers took the lead for good with 5:27 left in the game.

Otterbein crawled within two points with 22 seconds left but were unable to convert as they fell to the Terriers.

Sophomore Guard Chase Moyer led the team by scoring 17 points in the game.

Otterbein head coach Todd Adrian made the decision to sub in five true freshmen throughout the night.

"I'm really excited about the future with these guys," Adrian said.

Otterbein’s next basketball game is against Wittenberg University this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Rike Center.
