Otterbein Choirs show their cultural diversity in 'One World, One Voice'

Battelle Fine Arts Center: The Otterbein University Department of Music held their ‘One World, One Voice’ performance this past Sunday night in the Riley Auditorium.

In a performance that combined pieces from the men’s, women’s and concert choirs; the ‘One World, One Voice’ concert gave a perfect sampling of works by each choir mixed with a cultural infusion of poems and pieces from ten different countries.

With an astounding 83 members between all three choirs, Sunday night was an audible delight.

Starting the night was the Men’s choir which made sure that the audience was awake with three booming pieces that even involved encouragement to clap along during their final piece.

The women’s choir, featuring mostly underclassmen singers, serenaded everyone with a selection of folksy songs with a lighthearted tempo and feel to them.

Last but not least, the concert choir rounded out the evening by demonstrating a diverse range of vocal skills, singing pieces in Spanish, Korean and even Chinese.

“The Chinese piece was really tough” Concert Choir Director Gayle Walker admitted to the audience.

The concert choir will be performing in the Riley Auditorium again on March 6 at 7 p.m. and the Wind Ensemble will be at the Frische Theatre on the ninth at 8 p.m.
