Fourth-seeded Otterbein men’s soccer team lost a season-ending contest to fifth-seeded Ohio Northern by a score of 1-0 in their OAC tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
Ohio Northern jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Levi King converted a goal in the penalty box off a cross pass from Anthony DeNoi.
Otterbein’s offensive attack was limited, being outshot by the Polar Bears 9-2 in the first half.
The second half continued to feature strong defense on both ends with limited scoring opportunities.
Otterbein’s best scoring opportunity came in the 75th minute when Toby Varland took a free kick and Juan Rivas couldn’t quite convert on a header attempt. Ohio Northern goalkeeper John Lombardo made the save.
Eric Stucky attempted one last shot in the 87th minute, but Lombardo made a diving save to keep the ball out of the net.
Kohei Adams led the Cards with four shots. Ohio Northern outshot Otterbein 18-14, and goalkeeper Collin Hoffman recorded a total of nine saves.
With the first-round exit, Otterbein finishes the season with an overall record of 8-8 and a 5-4 run in the OAC.
