CPB Preps For Next Quarter

Otterbein's Campus Programming Board (CPB) provides fun activities around campus - and the city of Columbus - that some students are not even aware of.

Students can look forward to many other events next quarter. A bowling night for the end of January will feature $1 bowling, $1 shoe rental and $1 pizza for students. Free ice skating at the Easton Chiller is also a fun winter activity.

Winter quarter will also feature another dance class. This quarter, hip hop with Sean Peters got students moving and CPB wants swing dancing and ballroom styles to follow.

A knitting night, where you can learn to knit if you don't know how, will take place in February along with the return of last year's popular stuff-a-bear in the Campus Center. CPB will be selling Candy Grams for $1 leading up to Valentine's Day.

When asked what else they wanted to see CPB offer this year, Otterbein students had many ideas.

"I think coupons for free coffee to local places would be a good idea," said senior public relations major Rachel Kerr. "It would also help bring new student clients to those places."

Sophomore allied health major Jill Birkinbine hopes Blue Jackets tickets become available. "I think they come up with some pretty fun stuff...I like their ideas," she said.

For 2007, CPB kicked off with the annual New Student Weekend. They hosted a casino night and First Friday festival in the Campus Center. This year, CPB also hosted their first poster sale during the first weeks of school.

CPB President junior Laura Norman said she would like to see it become an annual event.

CPB featured three free movies at the start of each month: "Superbad," "30 Days of Night" and "American Gangster." They do not know what movies will be featured next quarter yet, but Norman said you can count on the free monthly movies being back again.

Hollywood Theatre, located at 5992 Westerville Road, hosts the movie nights. All you need is your cardinal card for free admission. The first 50 students in the door also get free popcorn.

Sophomore Kaitlin Smith went to see "American Gangster" last Friday. "I thought there was a really good turnout, especially since we're at the end of the quarter," said Smith.

Homecoming was a huge success, according to Norman and CPB Vice President Becky Sorensen.

"We got a lot of positive feedback," said Sorensen.

The homecoming festivities included everything from class donut runs to a Henna artist in the Campus Center. Norman credits part of this year's homecoming success to the volunteers.

"They worked their butts off that entire weekend," said Norman.

Tickets to Columbus Crew games went quickly this year, with only a limited number available. In fact, the first two games sold out.

Tickets to Monty Python's "Spamalot, a Broadway Musical," are being sold this week for a Friday show in Columbus at the Ohio Theatre. Next quarter you can look for the chance to buy tickets to the BalletMet Columbus. They are performing "Lovestruck," with music selected from Frank Sinatra, in the month of February.
