Around Columbus: Gallery Hop

This past Saturday, the streets of the Short North Arts District were filled with people, live music and beautiful art to enjoy.

This artistic event is known as the Gallery Hop, which occurs every first Saturday of the month at the Short North in downtown Columbus. The Hop serves as a celebration of art and gives visitors the chance to see the work of both local and national artisans. While art is the main theme of the night, there are many other activities as well.

Over 40 unique shops and restaurants open their doors for visitors to enjoy. Street performers provide visitors with continuous entertainment ranging from singers to interpretive dancers — and everything in-between. There are also many vendors in attendance that sell homemade crafts and jewelry.

The Hop officially starts at four in the afternoon, and the music and fun goes until late in the evening. According to Ohio Magazine, the Gallery Hop is known as one of the best art events in the city, and this past Saturday was no exception.

The Short North is a young, vibrant area and offers entertainment to people of all ages. There were several Otterbein students there enjoying all of the buzz. So, when you and your friends are deciding what to do on the weekend, don’t be afraid to get out and go to the city. It serves as a great way to dress up, have a fun night and explore what Columbus has to offer.
