5 things to know for this week

1. Fall break is October 14-16
Fall break encompasses Columbus Day, which is Monday, Oct. 14. The day commemorates Christopher Columbus’ entrance into the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492. It became a national holiday in 1937.

2. Football wins second game
After defeating Baldwin Wallace over the weekend, the Cardinals are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in OAC play. They play at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio on Saturday.

3. Volleyball ranked 14
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranked Otterbein 14th in the nation. They play at Muskingum in New Concord, Ohio on Tuesday.

4. Les Miserables concludes show
The show runs Wednesday-Saturday at 8 p.m. in Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall. Tickets are still available.

5. The U.S. government is still shut down
On top of the shutdown, Congress is battling the October 17 deadline to increase the nation’s ability to borrow money or risk default. The current debt ceiling is set at $16.7 trillion.
