Otterbein's McCabe continues last year's success

Megan McCabe, a sophomore equine pre-veterinary major, ranks second in goals with four, and in points with 10, tied for second with two assists and is first in shot percentage among players with at least 10 shots. She’s only started eight of the Cardinals’ 13 games. But that success isn’t unnatural for her.

McCabe continues off from her first year success which included leading the team with 15 points, placing ninth in the OAC in points and seventh in the OAC in assists.

However, McCabe might have never even participated in soccer unless her preschool friend’s mother convinced her to join.

“My mom and dad never even thought about me playing soccer,” McCabe said. “But this lady said that I should definitely play and my parents agreed.”

Throughout McCabe’s childhood she has had much success on the field including a state-championship run in high school that led her to Otterbein.

This season McCabe and the women’s soccer team have accumulated a record of 7-5-1 after losing to Ohio Northern on October 16, 1-0.

“This year, we have pretty high expectations and we have a lot of good freshmen and returning players,” McCabe said. “We definitely are looking for an OAC championship and then a run in the NCAA Tournament.”

While at Otterbein, McCabe has kept her same pre-game ritual: listening to music with her teammates in the locker room and eating a Twix bar, which she said is very proactive, yet very simple. But no matter what the outcome is this year, McCabe said she is having a great time and enjoying her time with the team.

“Otterbein soccer in general has been amazing,” McCabe said. “All of the girls are so funny and we’re all there for each other.”
