Junior allied health major Jared Pulliam continues to have an impressive season winning OAC Player of Week and leading the men’s soccer team with a total of 10 goals and 20 points this season.
Pulliam, who is from Westerville North High School, has been involved in sports since his childhood.
“I’ve been playing sports since I was 5 years old,” Pulliam said. “I played baseball, basketball ran track, played a lot of street hockey, one of my favorite sports, and snowboarding.”
With Pulliam’s admiration for different sports his training has become a large part of his life as an athlete.
“During soccer season, when I’m not in class I’m either playing soccer or studying,” Pulliam said. “That’s what I devote all of my time to.”
Pulliam also trains during the off-season by practicing indoor soccer but still finds time to relax by watching both the Columbus Crew and F.C Barcelona, including his favorite player, Lionel Messi.
“I think the fans in other countries appreciate (soccer) a lot more,” Pulliam said. “They get a lot more excited than some Americans do because the quality of play overseas is so much better.”
Pulliam said he also has a strong relationship with his family and it is one of the reasons he attended Otterbein to be close to home.
“They’ve come to just about every game,” Pulliam said. “They definitely make it to all the home games.”
Pulliam’s younger brother, Jacob Pulliam, is a freshman athletic training major at Capital University and also plays soccer. They will face off against each other for the first time in college jerseys Nov. 2 when the Cards take on the Crusaders at Capital.
“He’s pretty good,” Pulliam said about his brother. “He’s played in every game even though he’s starting as a freshman.”
Otterbein plays Capital — and Pulliam’s brother — November 2.
