Otterbein women's basketball victorious over Marietta

Cardinals secure 78-72 win in overtime

The Otterbein women’s basketball team scored a 78-72 win over Marietta inside the Rike Center Wednesday evening. The Cards were paced by five double-digit contributors en route to a key conference victory. With the win, women's basketball improves their record to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Five Otterbein players scored double-digit numbers, including Dani Kissel (15), Ali Cartnal (15), Angelia Jackson (15), Abbie Scholz (12) and Alex Schaffer (10). Otterbein maintained the lead for the majority of the first half, carrying a 37-31 lead into halftime.

The Cardinals came into the second half shooting well, expanding their lead up to 11 points at 46-34 with 7 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. Marietta would cut into the deficit over the course of the third quarter. The Cards entered the fourth quarter leading 57-50.

Marietta managed to keep the deficit low until it evened the score at 67-67 with 1:45 left in regulation. Both teams displayed strong defense in the closing minute of regulation as the game headed into overtime.

The Cardinals took the lead quickly and never looked back. Marietta trimmed the lead to one-possession (75-72) with 47 seconds left to play. The Cardinals were able to score free throws to secure the victory.

The Cardinals will travel to Columbus to face Capital Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
