Otterbein’s women's soccer and volleyball teams started their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournaments strong after dominating in the regular season.
Volleyball defeated Mount Union by a score of three sets to one. Women’s soccer won a nail-biter that went into double overtime, when Otterbein scored to edge out Wilmington 2-1.
The volleyball team went 24-5 in the regular season, beating ranked opponents Carnegie Mellon and OAC rivals Ohio Northern along the way. The team lost one set or less in 20 of its 24 wins. Otterbein had 1,427 kills, 221 aces, and 1,346 assists, compared to their opponents' combined 1,006 kills, 121 aces, and 923 assists.
The Cardinals also led their opponents in digs with 1,593 digs to opponents' 1,465 digs. Senior libero Ashlyn Leon added 432 digs this season after starting with 1,626 career digs, which puts her second on Otterbein’s all-time dig list with 2,058 and counting.
Women’s soccer has put together an impressive run of their own with a 15-3-1 regular season. Led by a core group of upperclassmen, the Cardinals have outscored their opponents by 47 goals with their 68 total goals on the season.
The Cardinals have 51 assists and 415 shots on goal this season compared to 13 assists and 147 shots on goal combined by their opponents. This gave Otterbein an advantage with an average of 21 shots on goal per game versus their opponents' 7.7.
The volleyball team plays Muskingum Thursday at 7 p.m. in New Concord, Ohio. Women’s soccer plays at 4 p.m. Thursday against the Capital Crusaders in Bexley, Ohio.
