Voting has commenced for the second annual “Cardy Awards.”
The Cardy’s is an award show that features the top achievements in Otterbein
athletics, similar to the Oscars in film or the Grammy Awards in music.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Westerville, the Otterbein Lady Cardinal softball team split a crucial double header with OAC foe, Muskingum. After the split, Otterbein and Muskingum find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place in the OAC with John Carroll. Only one series remains for the three teams to determine who makes the OAC playoff.

Coming into Friday afternoon's doubleheader with Ohio Northern, the Otterbein softball team was running on three days rest, as rain had pushed the regularly scheduled for Wednesday games back to Friday. That may have been a little bit too much time off for the Cardinal hitters, as they found themselves trailing the Polar Bears 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In what seems to be a trend for the season, the bats came to life in the late innings, tallying four runs on four hits, a walk and a hit-batter. The big blow came on a two-out, two-run double from freshman Rachael Owens, tying the game at four.

Otterbein’s LGBTQIA+ awareness week just came to a close this evening, culminating in the university's version of the national Day of Silence last evening at 5pm. Despite the schools racial demographics, the high rate of sexual and gender diversity felt on campus made for a week full of celebration of the student body’s uniqueness, inclusiveness, and some somber remembrance for those who have lost their lives because they didn't feel they had the ability to speak out about something as defining as whom they loved. Yet the welcoming environment of Otterbein is not viewed positively, or evenly passively, by all across the nation.

The “Ohio to Erie Trail” will be nearing completion later this year in Westerville by connecting Westerville and Columbus by a bike trail. This is part of a much larger plan by the Ohio to Erie Trail Board (OTET) to connect Cleveland and Loveland purely by bike trails.

The Otterbein hunt-seat equestrian team were reserve champions at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 6 Finals last Saturday, March 28. This placing has qualified the team to compete at the 2015 IHSA National Championship at the end of April.

The board of trustees decided in February to increase the cost of living for students on campus. New and returning Otterbein students will be paying an extra 2 percent for room and 1.5 percent for board, a hike of about $165 a semester.
