Children plan to assault teacher

A steak knife, a roll of duct tape, handcuffs, ribbon, a heavy crystal paperweight, and bad intentions, what inspires third-grade students to conspire in such a heinous activity?

My Column Smells Like French Toast. French Toast?

This is hard. There, get your "that's what she said" comment out of your head right now. There will be no more of that. But seriously, it is. Right now I'm writing the first column after Lucas Buck's last column. That's like batting 7th for the 1927 New York Yankees.

No Holds Barred for Student Service

While other students were traveling to exotic places like Panama and the Bahamas, a few decided to spend their spring breaks helping those in need. Professors and students traveled around the world, from South Carolina to Costa Rica, to give their time and energy to people who needed it.

Student's Loss Teaches a Somber Lesson

Just over a month ago, my good friend was killed in an automobile accident. She would still be here today if she had been wearing her seat belt. Megan always wore her seat belt, and we don't know why she didn't that particular morning. Perhaps, she only took it off for a second to reach for something, or perhaps it was an oversight in her rush to see her newborn niece.

OC Seeks Serving Students

Spring has finally sprung and at Otterbein that means it's time for community service. Many groups are having sign-ups now for activities. Other groups like Plan-It Eath are ready to get started on previously planned projects. From Otterbein bushes to Otterbein lake, service is springing up all over. *Featuring Picture Slideshow*

Tennis Swinging into Spring

Many college students enjoy a fun-filled spring break soaking up rays, fraternizing on beaches and enjoying a beverage of choice, perhaps two. This was not the case for the Otterbein Men's and Women's Tennis teams. Instead of working on their tans, they fine-tuned their baseline strokes and first serves.

Running for the Last Time

Jared French, the senior captain of the Otterbein men's cross-country team, continues his warm up for the one-mile race at the OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 8. He strips off a tight, long-sleeve black T-shirt. He replaces it with a red and white Otterbein jersey and, iPod in hand, puts the black shirt back on.

Burping. Farting. Pooping. There comes a time in every romantic relationship when these actions are brought out into the open...no longer swept under the rug, or in this case, flushed down the toilet. The couple must decide whether they can move forward...whether they can push past these seeming setbacks.

Debate Team Talks Way into Winners Circle

As the saying goes, there's no arguing with success, and nobody understands successful arguing better than the Otterbein debate team. The team qualified for nationals, which comes as no surprise. Otterbein has sent students to the national competition for the last five years.

Looking at Virginia Tech a Year After Deadly Shootings

There were problems, to be sure, with the way state and local authorities responded to the shootings at Virginia Tech nearly one year ago. Ideally, authorities would have stopped the tragedy from ever happening. Whether they had the ability to do so, however, is another discussion -- one that will likely never happen, at least in a court of law, if victims' families accept cash settlements from the authorities in exchange for waiving their right to sue over the crisis' handling.

Seniors Say Goodbye

"There is a chance you are going to be sued." My newspaper adviser called me at 11 p.m. and told me those exact words last June. In the final week of spring quarter, a story about the college's administration came before the Tan & Cardinal news desk and as a staff we decided to look into it.

Hurdlers Leap Over Competition

When reflecting back on the 2008 women's indoor track and field season, one would find that the women hurdlers have many reasons to be proud. These leaping ladies demonstrated their strength from the beginning of the season and continued to strive forward, making their presence known in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

Blizzard of '08

Ohio, at least among Ohioans, is infamous for its unpredictable weather. However, this past weekend the weather forecasters hit the proverbial nail on the head with the "Blizzard of '08". Of course, the blizzard hit in March, so Ohio's claim to wacky weather still holds true.

'Job' Fails to Pay Off

Deemed the British equivalent to a watered-down version of "Ocean's Eleven," "The Bank Job," which hit theatres Friday, offers mediocre thrills and baffling characters. The film is based on the true story of the 1971 bank heist in Marylebone, London. It is considered one of the most famous robberies in history, largely due to the government issuing a "D-Notice," which prohibited any press from covering the event.
