Senate Revels

College Senate met yesterday for the second time this quarter. The focal point of the evening was to celebrate Otterbein's recent feat. President C. Brent DeVore presented the prestigious Presidential Award for General Community Service to the senate. Otterbein College, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Colorado were the only three higher education institutions to be acknowledged by the White House for this distinction, according to DeVore. Mayor of Westerville Anne Gonzales and State Representative Larry L. Flowers were present to show their support for Otterbein's achievement. Gonzales presented a certificate to the college in appreciation for the service given to the community. "I wasn't surprised that Otterbein was one of the three establishments recognized," said Flowers.

Chelsea Merriman, junior psychology major, accepted the certificates on behalf of all the students after she redelivered the speech she gave at the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll awards ceremony the day Otterbein received the award.

Curriculum was also on the agenda. Sarah Fatherly, program coordinator for women's studies, brought a bill to the floor. The bill passed, allowing WOST 300 (Feminist Theories) to become part of the curriculum. "We want to encourage students to think about gender conceptually," said Fatherly. Senate also approved next year's academic calendar. t&c;
