Uptown Sizzling With Options

Have you been looking for a hot dog place that has over 40 different possible toppings? How about an inexpensive place to have a good lunch or dinner? Look no further than The Dog Joint, located on South State Street in Westerville.

"This is our own collaboration-not a franchise," said owner Mike Meaks. "We have had so many questions and so much interest already; we just hope the interest continues."

Meaks, along with Jimmy Dong and Brett Freifeld, plans to open The Dog Joint the first week in March.

The Dog Joint will not be just a place for all-beef hot dogs. The menu also includes turkey dogs, bratwurst, Italian sausage, corn dogs and grilled chicken strips.

All of the items come on a hot dog bun (made fresh daily) with your choice of any toppings.

The Dog Joint will also have veggie sandwiches, salads and a puppy meal (kids' meal) which includes chicken tenders or grilled cheese.

The owners have created 12 predetermined dogs with some clever and descriptive names. For example, the "Windy City," originally from Chicago, is a hot dog with yellow mustard, onion, sweet relish, tomatoes, pickles, sport peppers, celery and salt.

The "Messy Me" is topped with brown mustard, onion, chili and cheddar cheese. "South of the Border" lives up to its name with spiciness from the southwest mustard, salsa, sour cream, pepper-jack cheese and jalapeño peppers.

"The Aloha" has a little Hawaiian flavor because of the pineapple, bell peppers, bacon, brown sugar and cinnamon almond toppings. "Chuck's Wagon" includes barbeque sauce, cole slaw and pickles. And in order to say you did it your way, pick the "Frank Sinatra," with five different toppings of your choice.

Along with the hot dogs, there are also a number of sides. French fries, onion rings, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw and applesauce are all possibilities.

For dessert you can have one of the 24 soft-serve ice cream flavors, cookies, brownies or an apple puff.

There is no wait for your meal because it is prepared right in front of you.
