In celebration of Earth Week, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is challenging the campus to "Go Green."
On Monday, Plan-It Earth showed the video, "The End of Suburbia," a movie about the depletion of fossil fuels and the effects it may have on society.
CPB held the "Earth Day Craft Night," on Tuesday. The event allowed students to show their appreciation for the environment by planting flowers in pots after they had decorated them.
Bon Appétit also joined in the Earth Day celebration with their Low Carbon Diet Day, which was held Tuesday during lunch at the Cardinal's Nest.
For Low Carbon Day the dining hall featured only food that leaves behind no carbon footprint.
CCE Asst. Director Chris Hempfling recalled that many people were quick to notice that there was no ice cream that day.
Because ice cream is a dairy product, it relies on the livelihood of cattle. "The process is very big to get a gallon of milk," said Hempfling.
The CCE's focal event is the Spring Community Plunge, happening this Saturday at the Campus Center.
Students participating in the Plunge will be sent out to different organizations throughout Columbus to help with a variety of service projects.
"We're going to 16 different agencies," said Hempfling, "We have slots for 225 students. We're actually over that."
CardinalCorps Leader, Whitney Prose, said the Plunge is "an easy way to be introduced to the environment issue."
The outdoor environment will benefit as well since students will be engaged in different "green" projects.
Prose claims the Plunge will also help the economic environment.
More than 200 students will be working for free for three hours, and the amount they would normally get paid adds up to "a big economic donation," said Prose. t&c;
