'Baby Mama' delivers laughs

"Baby Mama," which debuted last week, captivatd movie audiences everywhere with its hilarious plot and talented cast.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, both famous for their time spent on Saturday Night Live (SNL), star as the perfectly dysfunctional on-screen couple.

"Baby Mama" follows a career-driven 37-year-old woman named Kate Holbrook, played by Fey, who suddenly feels the urge to procreate.

Everywhere Kate turns she is bombarded by the baby boom of the 21st century, thereby increasing her desire to experience the miracle of motherhood before "the clock stopped ticking."

Kate tries everything from In Vitro fertilization to adoption in order to try the single-parent route, but it all proves to be in vain. Not to mention, she has a T-shaped uterus which prevents her from ever getting pregnant.

Refusing to give up, she decides to put her faith in a surrogate mother. To her, it was worth the $100,000 to fulfill her utmost desire.

"It cost more to have a baby than to get somebody killed," said Kate. "Well, it takes longer," responds the owner of the surrogate agency, Chaffee Bicknell, played by Sigourney Weaver.

The hopeful candidate who is "carefully screened" and chosen to be Kate's baby mama is Angie Ostrowski, played by Poehler.

In many instances throughout the film, Angie's free-spirited attitude brings out the wild child in Kate, proving that she may not be as tightly wound as she may appear.

Poehler manages to put a satirical twist on everything, which helps her nail the part of a woman with a less than satisfactory adult view on life.

With so much satire and comedy from Poehler about the joys of motherhood, one has to wonder if she will ever be mature enough to follow through with this pregnancy.

Also starring in this film are comedians Greg Kinnear and Dax Shepard. "Baby Mama" is brought to life by director Michael McCullers, the genius behind the "Austin Powers" trilogy, and producers John Goldwyn and Lorne Michaels, who created SNL, which gave both leads their start.

Although this light-heart film may not spark a philosophical conversation afterwards, it will at least provide a laugh or two. t&c;
