New hybrid embryos cause controversy

Since the dawn of the 20th century, science has been hurtling passed our morals for years. Every new advancement in the medical field means a healthier physical life, but the means of attaining those advances has drawn us further from our moral selves. At first, many were against the idea of cloning. The idea of a human being having the ability to recreate another living creature scared millions of us half to death. Then came the very controversial idea of stem cell research, which basically involved the starting of a cell line that required the destruction of a human embryo. The cells taken out of the destroyed embryo, which pro-lifers consider a human, are used for research. Now, ladies and gentleman, comes a new stride in medical miracles: hybrid embryos. The newest edition to our corrupt medical advancements involves a mixture of human and animal embryos. Scientists are planning on taking the nuclei of human cells and injecting it into eggs of animals, such as cows or rabbits. Since stem cells have been very controversial due to the destruction of the embryo, this whole procedure bypasses this problem completely by not using a human embryo but creating one themselves. According to Newcastle University, "stem cells are building blocks that can grow into any type of tissue such as liver, heart and muscle cells." Therefore, scientists are planning on learning how these cells work then manipulating them in order to help cure diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

Despite how morally corrupt this practice is, countries like Britain and others in the U.K. have passed bills allowing this research to continue. Since they are known for being leaders in stem cell and cloning research, they wanted to live up to their reputation by allowing this research to flourish. The scientists performing this experiment have made it clear that they want to mix the eggs for two weeks and then destroy it after they see what happens. They claim that they were never planning on injecting this newly created embryo into a woman or an animal. However, the point of this isn't the creation of an actual child, but the boundary of creationism that these scientists are crossing. If we are mixing human eggs with rabbits and killing them after two weeks to find a cure for diseases, what's going to prevent us from using this same technology to make ourselves a "perfect" baby? Enough is enough. We shouldn't be forced to decide between our moral principles and our medical health in order to survive. It doesn't matter whether or not a person believes in God-that is irrelevant-but one thing we all know and can agree on is how a baby is made. Humans should not be allowed to mix species, create humans and play God. There is only so much moral corruption that the ingenious monster called science can get away with. t&c;
