The Otterbein men’s soccer team won a battle against the Earlham College Quakers, 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 28.
With this win, the men’s soccer team improves their record to 5-4 on the season. Earlham’s record drops to 4-6 on the season.
Otterbein was the first team to put points on the board when senior defender Jake Keller headed in sophomore midfielder Josh Kellner’s corner kick for the goal with just eight minutes into the first half.
Otterbein had trouble in the middle of the game, giving up two unanswered goals to Earlham including a rebounded penalty kick.
Earlham would enter halftime with the lead, 2-1, over the Cardinals.
“We were a little discouraged giving up two goals after scoring the first (goal),” said Jared Pulliam, junior forward. “But we believed in ourselves, and we believed that if we played our best we would pull out a win.”
Otterbein came out of halftime strong with Pulliam scoring the game-tying goal with only 40 seconds into the second half.
With 20 minutes remaining in the game Otterbein would eventually score the go-ahead goal off of a penalty kick made by senior midfielder Evan Fallon.
This would be all the offense the Cardinals needed, as they would hold on to win.
The Cardinals had 22 total shots with three goals. Earlham had 10 shots with two goals.
“We were really composed,” Pulliam said. “We were switching the ball really well and we were connecting on our passes. Collectively, we played really well today.”
The men’s soccer team opens up OAC action at Baldwin Wallace University Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
