On Sept. 7 at Indiana Institute of Technology, Alec Mieras completed his first fall season for Otterbein’s men’s tennis team. Although the Michigan native suffered a tennis injury in between matches that caused him to miss most of the season, he said he still enjoyed his time with the team and his freshman year at Otterbein so far.
In high school, Mieras was looking at numerous schools, including University of Nevada Las Vegas, Robert Morris University and Bowling Green State University. Academics, he said, were his number one priority when looking at schools, with tennis being second. With that in mind, these big schools, most notably Robert Morris, were still recruiting him.
But, Mieras decided that Otterbein was the place for him. After passing signs for Otterbein on the way to other college visits, he said he decided to check it out. After seeing the academics and athletics, he said Otterbein was the place for him.
Half a semester in, Mieras said he is enjoying his choice of school.
“I love the people here, I love how small it is,” he said. “I love how you can just connect with people and your professors.”
Not only is he happy with his choice in school, he said he is also happy with his choice to play tennis at Otterbein.
“It’s been great,” Mieras said. “We’re just a bunch of guys that are all pretty similar in the way we go about things. We get along well for sure.”
He also has very high hopes for the team this year.
“I think we have a really strong team,” he said. “I don’t think there’s any reason that we shouldn’t be one of the top teams in the conference.”
