The Otterbein men's basketball team lost to Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) showdown by a score of 104-75 inside the Rike Center Wednesday evening.
Following the loss, Otterbein drops to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in OAC play. Wilmington improves to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in OAC play.
The Cardinals were paced in scoring by Maurice Beavers at 20 points. Other scorers included Jay Joseph with 18 points and Austin Springer with 14 points, the latter of which made his second start of the season after recently being inserted.
The Quakers were paced in the first half by a 17-7 run at the 10:41 mark spanning 3 1/2 minutes to expand their lead to 40-23. Wilmington went on to carry a steady double-digit lead into halftime, leading by as many as 22 points, while successfully making nine three-pointers and shooting nearly 54 percent from the field.
Midway through the second half, the Cardinals closed the gap to as little as 12 points, at 76-64, by the 8:03 mark. Wilmington followed with a 20-7 run lasting five minutes, ultimately acquiring a 93-67 lead with 4:34 left to play.
The Quakers went on to surpass 100 points with 2:06 left to play in the game. The visitors finished the game, shooting 54 percent (14 of 26) from beyond the arc and tallied 49 points off the bench.
Otterbein shot just 39 percent from the floor and also went 19 of 26 at the free-throw line. The team finishes the week by traveling to Mount Union Saturday at 2 p.m.
