During his time as a Marine, Ben would have to look out for attempted attacks or breaching of the base by keeping watch on the perimeter guard tower. He worked alongside another Marine to provide a 24 hour post provided with weaponry, and night vision glasses.

Sangin Valley was located in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. Ben and his unit were flying over this area where he and his unit would provide services such as convoy security, combative airstrikes against insurgents, and medical evacuations.

Former Corporal Benjamin Tullos frequently worked in urban areas of Afghanistan. Combat patrol was an important part of his service in the Marines. The Helmand province was a particularly dangerous area where extra security was routinely provided.

After his time in the Marines, Tullos earned his associates degree at Marion Technical College. He is now attending Otterbein pursing a degree in Software Engineering. One class he enjoys that Otterbein offers for his field of study is Python Programming where coding work is done, an important skill to learn for the workforce.

Rachel Mausser (’19) rode Otterbein’s Josie in her qualifying round for Nationals, the horse she was hoping to pull. IHSA riders learn what horse they will ride only minutes before they enter the ring. “I feel very lucky to compete on such a talented team and ride at the beautiful facility Otterbein has,” said Mausser.

Rachel Mausser (’19) and Emily Kowit (’20) are Nationals bound in Novice fences. Novice fences are 2’ 3’’. The two grew up riding together and kept Nationals in mind all season.
