Volleyball begins homestand before conference play

The Cardinals went 11-1 in three opening tournaments

Otterbein volleyball looks to continue their six-game win streak this week at home against Kenyon on Wednesday and #8 Wittenberg on Friday.

Following last year’s regular season conference championship, the Cardinals have come out to a surging 12-1 start behind 13-year head coach Monica Wright. During her tenure, Wright has led the Cardinals to four OAC Championships and five NCAA tournament appearances.

Also leading the charge is senior libero Ashlyn Leon, a three-year returning starter for Otterbein. Leon entered the season with 1,626 digs in her career, good enough for third on Otterbein’s all-time digs list. With 15 matches left in the regular season, Leon is 273 digs shy of second.

This season, the Cardinals have dominated from the get-go, winning their first six matches before being beaten by the #13 University of Chicago. So far this season, the Cardinals have beaten eight different opponents by a score of three sets to none, including #24 Illinois Wesleyan.

The Cardinals offense has commanded every game and tallied 593 kills, 560 assists, and 118 aces. Their opponents have combined for a total of 370 kills, 342 assists, and 53 aces.

Kenyon, led by head coach Kenda Mosher, has a 2-6 record, with three of those losses coming from top 25 teams like #2 Calvin.

Wittenberg is coached by head coach Evelyn Carus. The Tigers have a 4-5 overall record, with five opponents in the top 25 rankings. Against ranked opponents, Wittenberg is 2-3.

Both matches start at 7 p.m. in the Rike Center.
