With winter coming to an end and spring being just around the corner, it's about time for women's lacrosse at Otterbein.
Our women's team starts its season with a trip down to Kentucky to face Transylvania University, followed by a series of six home games.
Since recruiting new players and training returning players, the women's lacrosse team now has a versatile roster.
“Going into this season, I'm feeling very hopeful. We have a lot of people returning, but we also have a lot of new players coming in. This depth allows our returners to succeed,” said senior criminology, sociology, and psychology major Ava Robey .
The fall preseason has just wrapped up for the Cardinals, and they were able to get a good look at their current roster before spring.
“We have a scrimmage this Wednesday, so it's going to be a great opportunity for us to see how our preseason work is going to translate,” said Robey. During their fall preseason, the women's lacrosse team started a flawless 3-0 win streak, even while facing some tough Division II opponents.
“There is a lot of improvement this year. We had a great recruiting class, which is great for us to be able to have rotation and being able to adjust during games,” said senior public relations and journalism major Gillian Roeder . The women's lacrosse team grew from 19 members to 23 members since its seniors' graduation in April.
Following the fall preseason, the women's lacrosse team has its sights set high for the spring season.
“This season, we have two main goals: beat Capital and win the OAC. I think we have a great shot at doing that this year. JCU leaving the conference helps because that's one less team you have to beat this year. We also have strength in numbers, which is something other universities are struggling with this year,” said Robey.
A solid roster with clear, set goals is a recipe for success, one which the Cardinals have been using to prepare for their first game on February 14th at Transylvania University .
