This past weekend the Cards traveled to Mount Union and it ended pretty much like an Otterbein fan would expect, disastrous.

During the first quarter Otterbein kept the game scoreless. I thought they might have had a shot to stay with them until the second quarter began. That’s when everything started to go wrong for the Cards.

Mount scored four touchdowns in the scond quarter, three on the ground and one through the air, and Otterbein could not respond. The Cards didn’t score in the first half and they didn’t improve very much in the second. The defense improved by only giving up 14 points, but the offense just could not get the ball into the red-zone to give their team a chance to score. The game ended in a shut out, 42-0.

The Cards had many problems in this game but the most serious one was running the ball. They were only able to run for 15 yards throughout the entire game. Mount on the other hand ran for 316 making the defense look weak and slow. Mount Union also passed for 232 yards while Otterbein passed for 140. Its easy to tell why the Cards got shut out. 548 yards to 155 cleary demonstrates one team dominating the other.

Otterbein is now 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference. This is certainly not the season fans and players were hoping for. The good thing is that there is still two games left and fortunately both of them are at home.

This Saturday the Cards will face Marietta and then their last game will be against Wilmington. For many seniors these last two games will be the ones they will remember for a very long time. Hopefully they will end their collegiate football careers on a winning note.
