The Colts are going to get the number 1 pick in the NFL Draft and will look to get Andrew Luck. Some people believe that if the Colts get Luck, Manning will leave and play for another team. Others believe that Manning will stay and do what other Hall of Fame quarterbacks have done before. I believe that he will leave because of what history has shown.

This happened in San Francisco with Joe Montana and Steve Young. Young was drafted to replace Montana but only after learning everything Montana could do. It also happened in Green Bay with Bret Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Favre told reporters that he was not there to teach some guy that was going to eventually replace him. He was there to win a Super Bowl.

There are many recent examples of this such as Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow, Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker, and even Tom Brady and Ryan Mallet. All of these guys came in to learn from the starter and then take their job.

If Manning is smart he won’t do that because then he’ll always be looking over his shoulder. He’ll have to worry about getting injured again and then Luck being the starter forever. He’ll also have to worry about being traded at any time during the season and even the offseason. Manning should ask to be traded to another team where he can start over and continue his football legacy.

Favre and Montana did the same thing and both of them almost won a Super Bowl on their new team. Montana took the Chiefs to the Super Bowl and lost while Favre went to the NFC Championship and lost.

If Manning leaves he won’t have to worry about things he can’t control. He can just focus on football and winning his second Super Bowl. I could be wrong though. I don’t know Manning well enough to say this will definitely happen but I’m pretty sure it will. Whatever he does it will be very intriguing to see how it works out.
