Now I know every college football fan will be glued to their television set on New Year’s Day and all the way up to the BCS Championship game. Those are going to be great games, don’t get me wrong, but what about the games before New Year’s Day? Those are the bowls that I like to watch because some of them eventually become classics years later.

However what if you could only watch one? Which one would it be? No need to worry because I’m here to help. I’m going to give you the three best bowls this December and you can choose the one you want to watch.

First up we have the Champs Sports Bowl on December 29th. This one will feature Notre Dame and Florida State, two teams that ended their seasons with 8-4 records. Florida State has won four of six meetings with the Irish and the Seminoles have the number 4 scoring defense in the nation. The Irish however will try to run the ball and pass for over a total of 400 yards. The two teams also score over 30 points a game so it could turn into a real shootout.

Second is the Poinsettia Bowl featuring TCU and La Tech on December 21st. This may be a matchup between two non-AQ conferences but it doesn’t mean the game will be boring. The biggest attraction will be TCU’s rushing attack consisting of Waymon James, Matthew Tucker and Ed Wesley. They average a total of 210 rushing yards a game while La Tech only gives up 122 yards per game. This could also be a high passing game since both teams pass for over 240 yards. Be sure to look for play action and screens.

The final bowl is the Hawaii Bowl on December 24th. This one will have Nevada square off against Southern Mississippi, the team that upset Houston in the Conference USA championship game. Nevada will look to use their run game which ranks 8th in the nation with 251.8 yards a game. Southern Miss will try to counter with their average running attack of 207 yards a game. Running back fans should tune in to this one.

Well there you have it. These are the three best games, in my opinion, before New Year’s Day. I hope you enjoy them and have a wonderful holiday.
