Ever wonder what a pro sports team makeover looks like? Look at the Marlins. They have completely redone their organization so much that it looks as if they were never called the Florida Marlins.

The Marlins now have a new logo that is an M with a swordfish on it. It reminds me of the old Miami Hurricanes logo which was an M before it was a U. They have even gotten new uniforms and a completely new stadium.

If that weren’t enough, they have just signed SS Jose Reyes, pitcher Mark Buehrle, and manager Ozzie Guillen. They are also trying to get pitcher, C.J. Wilson, and either Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols. That’s a lot of money to spend. So far they are spending 198 million in 2011 for their current roster including their offseason moves so far.

Apparently the Marlins believe that if they get these players they will sell out every night and be able to pay these guys. I think that’s unlikely and that they have a much higher chance of ending up like the Dodgers who filed for bankruptcy.

I would love to see this. It would be the dream team trifecta. The Heat did it in the NBA, the Eagles did it in the NFL, and the Marlins could do it in MLB. So far the Heat looked good, the Eagles are a failure, and the Marlins could be either one.

I’m tending to lend more towards failure because they have to receive a lot of revenue to keep everyone and the team viable for years. This will be very interesting.
