Well I was wrong. I thought that the Lakers wanted Dwight Howard and would get Chris Paul if they could. Instead they traded Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom to New Orleans for CP3. I thought that they would trade Lamaar Odom to Orlando with Andrew Bynum for Howard. However the Commissioner stepped in and stopped all of this a few hours later.

Wait, what? The Commissioner halted this trade? Can he really do that? I guess he can, especially since some of the owners complained about having Chris Paul teamed up with Kobe. Apparently the Hornets are owned by the league and the owners have not stepped in until now. In the new CBA agreement, which was ratified today, is going to be used to increase competitive balance and let the small market teams have a chance.

I don’t think they should’ve done this. The hornets got a great deal out of this trade. They would’ve gotten Lamar Odom and then Luis Scola and Kevin Martin from the Rockets for trading Pau Gasol. These three players are not stars but they’re quality guys that can take a team to the playoffs with good coaching. They also got a future first round draft pick as well. This was probably the best deal New Orleans was going to get and they took it.

Now the Hornets have to build from scratch to find a team to trade Paul or wait till he leaves after the season. I would say hold onto and don’t even think about trading him unless they could get anything close to what the Lakers offered them. It should be interesting to see where the Hornets go from here and who will have the better chance to get CP3.
