Road Trip Wraps Up With OC Win

The last time the Cardinal women's basketball team walked into Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, they took care of business.

The team shot almost 70 percent from three-point range, drubbing the Pioneers 81-27.

Coming off a heartbreaking loss to John Carroll, the Cardinals bounced back with resounding form against Marietta.

Otterbein crushed the Pioneers again this year 84-64.

Sara Fee led Otterbein scoring with 17 points on five of seven shooting. She pulled down six rebounds and had five assists. Katy Miller added to the offensive, scoring 16 points.

The Cardinals shot 53 percent from the field and just under 40 percent from the three-point line. However, the real tale of the tape was the Cardinals' defense in the second half.

The team came out of halftime and poured on the defensive pressure. They embarked on an 18-0 run to start the second half. The Pioneers didn't score until the 14-minute mark.

"We weren't communicating much [in] the first half. We knew we had to pick up our intensity in the second half to come out with a win," said senior guard Ana Gamble.

With the win, the team wraps up their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road trip.

The Cardinals head to the Rike Center for an OAC contest with Muskingum on Saturday. It's their first home game since January 12.

The only thing harder than conference games are conference games on the road. They went 2-4 with the only other win coming against Capital.

"We've been on the road for pretty much all of January. It's gonna feel good to play in the Rike again," Gamble said.

Otterbein lost in their earlier meeting with the Muskies 87-81. Karli Volkmer led the way for the Cardinals, scoring 23 points. Carla Lewis contributed 14 points off the bench.

The Cardinals are going to need to hit the boards in order to ensure Muskingum defeat heading into the second round of competition.

Muskingum's Jessica McKenzie had a double double with 15 points and 15 rebounds when the teams last faced off.

The two teams are also closely matched according to OAC rankings.
