I hate Christmas.
Being with family is nice and all. Spirits are high, money is spent on you, and there's good food. However, with age comes more awareness of the rest of the season.
For starters, every single building you step into is blasting obnoxious Christmas music. By Dec. 25, I'm ready to rip my hair out after hearing Mariah Carey for the millionth time. Stores, restaurants, and even houses play it on the radio and in their cars; the music is genuinely everywhere.
Beyond that, everyone insists on watching Christmas movies. Why on earth would I want to watch "Elf" for the eighth year in a row? I know every line by heart at this point, and I hate that fact. The movie was funny on the first watch, a bit comedic on the second, and beyond that, I now have a deep-rooted hatred for Will Ferrell and his stupid yellow tights.
Sure, the nostalgic memories of gathering around the tree as little kids are nice, warm, and fuzzy. Now that we are adults, though, the expectation is that we spend money too.
Why am I spending my whole paycheck on gifts that get thrown out the next day? Things are always the wrong size, or aren't precisely what the person wanted; there is always some kind of problem.
For one last exclamation point on my griping: who actually likes eggnog? That is the most disgusting concoction of substances that I can possibly imagine. Who decided that was going to be a staple of the holidays?
Overall, I hate this season. I wake up, and my car won't start because of the cold after I slip down my driveway. I suffer through the annoyance year in and year out, but yet, this is a time of happiness and celebration with family.
While I might not find the most enjoyment out of this season, I hope the rest of you do. From everyone here at T&C Media, we wish you a happy holiday season.
