Otterbein Cardinals fall at Mount Union

This past weekend Otterbein football fell to Mount Union in a 42-0 blow-out.

This moves the Cardinals to a 2-6 overall record and a 1-6 record in the OAC while the Raiders still remain the conference leaders with a 7-0 record overall and 6-0 in conference play.

The match began bright for the Cardinals with the score being tied at zeros in the first quarter. The defense owned two sacks, forcing Mount Union to punt twice before the Raiders offensive storm came sweeping in.

Mount Union produced 28 points through three running plays that totaled for 181-yards from the hands of running back Jeremy Murray, who rushed for 122-yards and two touchdowns, and Blair Skilliter, who totaled 76-yards on the run and one touchdown. There would also be a 5-play series for a 23-yard passing play by quarterback Matt Piloto, who totaled 223-yards passing, to wide receiver Shannon Stewart.

Piloto would connect again with A. J. Clayomb for two more touchdown passes finalizing the 42-0 score.

Though the numbers show the Cardinals in a dim light there are a few positives.

Junior wide receiver, Trey Fairchild finished the afternoon with 77-yards receiving and 116-yards in kick-returns for a total of 193-yards on the day.

On the defensive side of things, senior linebacker Shane Centers recorded 16 tackles, a game high.

The Cardinals will return home for the final two season games, beginning with Marrietta, that is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
