Zombiefest infects campus

Library to host zombie-themed festival and movie night

Come this Monday, the Otterbein library will be crawling with rotting, brain dead, flesh eating beast.

Zombiefest, an event being put on by the library committee will bring the zombie culture to our campus. The event will kick off at seven.

“We know students are interested in this sort of theme. During Greek
Week fraternities really tend to get into the whole Zombie thing,” said
library event committee member Becky Moore.

In 2011 Pi Sig won harmony night with a full zombie theme.

“Why not take it to the next level?” said Stacie Walker-Ladson, another library event commitee member.

Senior Pascal Domicone of Pi Beta Sigma said that their entire chapter is excited for the event. “It’ll be cool to see how the library looks after the booths are all set up and everyone is decked out in zombie gear. Events like these really help get the freshman involved, and they are fun for the upperclassmen too who are just trying to have some good old fashioned zombie fun!” he said.

The movie, which inspired the event, starring Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, follows zombie-apocalypse survivors as they journey across the United States to finish off the rest of the walking dead and find safety.

Throughout the movie, specific rules (that will be brought to life at Otterbein’s Zombiefest) are given to the humans who are trying to survive in a zombie-infested nation. These rules, such as, “always have back up” and “limber up” are guaranteed to lead you to safety if followed correctly.

Students will have he opportunity to watch the movie, or receive a quick “Spark-notes” style education on zombies at this event. If you follow the rules you will be fully prepared if some sort of flesh-eating zombie attack were to happen on campus.

The library’s first and second floors will be transformed from a tranquil study zone, to a festival (where no one is safe from zombie attacks) reminiscent of the movie where a mutated strain of mad cow disease has turned most humans into cannibal zombies.

“Zombieifest” will be alive with music, booths, activities, games and food that fit the Zombieland theme and culture.

“Zombie themes are popping up everywhere. This event reminds me of the television show Walking Dead, which makes me really excited to see how the Library Event commitee takes this theme and runs with it,” sophomore Nursing major Amy Siebold said, “I can’t wait to wear the zombie costume I wore last year for Halloween!”

The Library Event committee is encouraging students submerge themselves in the spirit of the evening, to dress up as zombies and enter the costume competition for the chance to win gift card prizes. After the first floor games and events starting at 7pm, grab some Twinkies, Kool-Aid and popcorn, find your “kick ass partner” (one of the rules) and head up to the second floor at 8 p.m. to see the movie Zombieland.

There will be opportunities in the Campus Center the week prior to the festival to collect raffle tickets to bring to the event. Luckily for all the freshman or transfer students wanting to get involved, there is a New Student Raffle, giving them even more opportunities to win prizes.
