Outside Otterbein Week 11: News to know

Here are the week’s headlines from the nation and world:

An internet security bug exposes personal information: The bug, “Heartbleed,” has exposed passwords and possibly credit card numbers for two years. The bug affected the code that servers used to keep information secure.

New graduates’ perceptions, expectations and realities in first jobs: An online study compared perceptions of job readiness and ability to balance responsibilities between new graduates and their bosses. New grads don’t always have a realistic perception of the professional world they enter, and workplace culture, budgeting and loan repayment can present problems.

Central African Republic to get peacekeepers: The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to send 12,000 peacekeepers to the CAR to protect civilians from the violence between Christian and Muslim factions. The violence has escalated since March 2013.

Obama signs executive order for federally-employed workers: On Tuesday, Obama signed an executive order that banned federal contractors from retaliating against employees who discuss their salaries. Critics are doubtful that the order will effect change for equal pay for women and minority workers.

News from Michael Vick’s dogfighting dogs: In 2007, NFL quarterback Michael Vick was convicted on charges related running a dogfighting ring. Seven years later, some of the dogs removed from the ring have been adopted and seem to be doing well.
