OtterBrief: February 23, 2015

In case you missed it:

US - The US department of homeland security funding plan is due Friday, Feb. 23. Part of the plan includes a halt in the deportation of 5 million undocumented workers, which the Republican controlled Congress does not approve of. If a plan does not get approved a partial government shutdown would occur. 

WORLD - Over the weekend Greece had to come up with a list of economic reforms that would satisfy eurozone creditors and enable a four month extension on the $272 billion bailout for the country. The list will be presented tomorrow to the Eurogroup in Brussels.

Coming up:

President Obama will likely veto construction on the House and Senate approved XL Keystone pipeline extension this week. 

Otterbein:

The OtterTHON raised $12,787 for four 'miracle families'  and Nationwide Children’s hospital on Saturday Feb. 21. While its no $13 million, it is an increase from last year's raised $9,539.

Adjunct professors across the country are staging a walk-out on Wednesday, Feb. 25 to protest unfair wages and working conditions. 

Old Bag of Nails is hosting a Jazz concert on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.

The OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships are to be held this Saturday Feb. 28 at Capital University.

Small victory:

The Nigerian army tweeted that they have been able to retake the town of Baga from Boko Haram militants who have held the town since Jan. 3.
