Otterbein mens' baseball falls to Ohio Wesleyan 14-5

On a chilly Thursday afternoon in Westerville, the Cardinal baseball team had their hot start cooled off by the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. After trading runs early, the Bishops were able to use Cardinal errors to build an insurmountable lead, winning the game 14-5.

Freshman Craig Prince started for the Cardinals, and gave up two runs in the first inning. Otterbein answered both of those scores with four of their own. Senior Jake Simmerman had a two run double down the left field line in the first and Tyler Kent had an rbi single in the second with a second run scoring on an Ohio Wesleyan error.

The Bishops took control of the game in the third inning, tying the game at four after back to back doubles, then with two outs, a throwing error that should have ended the inning led to a two-run home run, giving the Bishops a 6-4 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Through the fifth and sixth innings, Ohio Wesleyan built the lead up to ten at 14-4. Otterbein added a run on a towering sacrifice fly from junior J.C. Gibson in the eighth, but were unable to get any closer.

Head coach George Powell was a little upset with his team's effort, but admitted that the main focus is on this weekends matchup with conference rival Marietta "We don't like to learn by losing, we would rather learn from winning, but at least this effort bothered the guys. They didn't feel satisfied with their effort today."
