OtterTHON raises over $12,000

Otterbein hosted a seven hour dance marathon this weekend to raise money for Nationwide Children’s hospital.

OtterTHON raised $12,787 over the past year to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Almost 230 participants attended last Saturday’s event to dance for the cause. The fundraiser was held in the Clements Recreation Center from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sophomore public relations major Maddie Hill said she danced for her four year old brother.

“He’s my world and I don’t ever want to see my family have to go through the things that some of our Nationwide families go through. So I dance to try to help find a cure for childhood illness,” said Hill.

Dancers participated in Zumba, yoga and line dancing sessions throughout the evening. Participants also took time to honor the four families sponsored by OtterTHON. Each dancer wore a wristband with the name of one of the children to honor the purpose of the occasion

This year, the executive board set a monetary goal of $20,000. Although this goal was not met, the event raised over $3,000 more than the previous year. Dance marathons are occurring for the same purpose across the nation this month, in the hope to end childhood disease.
