Student government charters organizations; discusses federal-work study

Student Government met at the Roush Boardroom on Sept. 10 for their second meeting of the academic year.

Carrie Coisman, president of student government, said that an alcohol amnesty policy would be included within the definition of sexual misconduct in the 2015-2016 campus life handbook. She said the policy would apply to victims of other assaults even though the policy is not stated.

“I think it’s going to continue to be an issue but we are making progress with it being listed under sexual assault in the student life handbook so all students have access to that on O-Zone.”

An alcohol amnesty policy guarantees that any student who may be under the influence the alcohol and has witnessed or been the victim of certain crimes can report the crimes without fear of being charged for alcohol policy violations.

Coisman said that she had received several concerns about Otterbein reducing federal work-study availability and said that this was due to a decrease in federal funds.

“That is not actually a fault of the university. Otterbein was granted a significant amount less federal money this year than in the past. Yeah, a third less.”

The allocations committee reported that student government has approved and granted $10,357.

Several student senators missed roll call but every senator except one was present by the end of the meeting.

One action item was addressed. Student government approved a long list of organizations that applied to be chartered, which included Greek organizations, honor societies and others.
