An event meant to connect faculty to members of Greek Life was not well attended by faculty.
The event, “Warm Up to Greek LIfe,” was attended by student members of Greek Life, Otterbein Police and Student Affairs. The event took place in the Campus Center with booths set up for each fraternity and sorority present.
Justin Wiseman, OPD Sergeant, said that OPD’s attendance at the event was part of community outreach activities.
Ben Schwarz, Assistant Director of Greek Life, said the purpose of the event was to reintroduce faculty and staff members to Greek Life.
“Faculty and Staff members may not know it, but there are Greek members inside their classes,” Schwarz said. “We represent about 25 percent of the campus population and, you know, sometimes we tend to forget about our outreach to our faculty and staff community that we love and support so much.”
“I think we all just kind of collectively realized we needed to do something to just reach out to the faculty,” Conner Dunn, a senior theater major and president of IFC, said.
“I think Greek Life and faculty, they seem like natural conflicts on campus probably. One’s academic, another one’s social, I think that’s a pretty big conflict when you’re out in college, the academic versus social, so I think this is us trying to sit down and say ‘hey, let’s talk about it’.”
