2019 Super Bowl Preview: Los Angeles Rams vs New England Patriots

The Los Angeles rams will win in a close game to the Patriots in the 2019 Super Bowl

The Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots will battle for the Super Bowl title on Sunday, Feb. 3. The Patriots are appearing in their third consecutive Super Bowl after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Los Angeles is making its first Super Bowl appearance in almost two decades (last appearing in 2002 as the St. Louis Rams and losing to the New England Patriots.)

The big story in this matchup is the young Rams team facing the experienced Patriots. Los Angeles is coached by Sean McVay, who, after being hired in 2017 at 30 years old, is the youngest coach in the National Football League. Rams’ quarterback Jared Goff is only in his third season. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have won five Super Bowls. The Rams have a tall task in taking down one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports.

Why the Rams will win:

The Los Angeles Rams will win the 2019 Super Bowl because of their high-powered offense led by quarterback Jared Goff. The Rams were an offensive juggernaut this season, averaging over 30 points per game and over 400 yards of offense.

Running back Todd Gurley is among the few running backs in the league registering over 1,000 yards on the ground this season. The Patriots' defense, which has struggled at times during the season, faces quite a challenge having to slow down the Rams’ offense. Veterans Patrick Chung, Devin McCourty and Kyle Van Noy look to make a difference in slowing down the Rams.

While the Rams’ defense has struggled, there is a plethora of talented players on the team, such as all-pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald, who led the NFL with 20.5 sacks this season. Donald will be a big factor in leading a pass rush to disrupt Tom Brady’s timing with his receivers. Defensive backs Marcus Peters and Aquib Talib will be key players to watch in the secondary.

Reasons the Patriots could win:

The New England Patriots will win their sixth Super Bowl because of their experience. With Tom Brady leading the charge, it's hard to bet against the Patriots in a championship game. Brady continues to perform at a high level at the age of 41. The young Rams have never been in this situation of facing a seasoned veteran in the Super Bowl.

The Patriots have a dynamic offensive scheme that confuses defenses. Having experienced players such as tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Julian Edelman that understand the offensive scheme helps Tom Brady pick apart defenses. The Rams have dealt with spurts of defensive struggles throughout the season that Brady can take advantage of. The Patriots have averaged close to 30 points per game.

Game Prediction:

The Los Angeles Rams will take down the New England Patriots by a score of 34-30. Quarterback Jared Goff will take home the game’s most valuable player (MVP) award.

The game will air on CBS on Sunday, kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
