Seniors at Otterbein University are having mixed reactions about next semester’s graduation ceremony being moved to Ohio Expo Center’s Celeste Center.
“I’m a bit upset that it’s no longer on campus at Clements cause this is where I have been for the past four years. I would like to be on the campus where I grew up and made close friends and worked hard to get my degree,” said senior psychology major Caitlin Drew. “I have a lot of family that are planning on coming to see me graduate, so the extra tickets are nice, but they’re all going to have to pay for parking which they wouldn’t have had to worry about cause that wasn’t a problem when it was held at Clements.”
Senior allied health major Ella Schwertfager said, “I don’t mind them changing graduation to the Celeste Center because now my aunts and uncles can show up to it so that’s really nice. Paying for parking is the only somewhat annoying part but it’s not that big of a deal. As long as it doesn’t smell like livestock inside, I don’t have a problem with it being held there.”
The Celeste Center has held animals such as horses, pigs, and goats in the past.
In an email sent out by the university, it stated that the reason for these changes was due to feedback from past graduates about commencement. Their biggest complaints were there being limited tickets for guests, having to choose between two ceremonies and not being able to celebrate with all their friends.
Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 3.
