Otterbein saw an early snowfall for 2025

What determines a snow day at Otterbein?

What does it take for Otterbein to call a snow day?

Yesterday, Otterbein called the first snow delay of the season. The last delay of classes was in January 2023. While some students believe that Otterbein will call a snow day when Westerville is at a level 2 or 3 snow emergency or that Otterbein will cancel when The Ohio State University cancels. However, there is no specific number of inches of snow or level of snow emergency that will determine if Otterbein cancels classes.

Because Otterbein has a high percentage of commuter students, road safety is the deciding factor according to Otterbein registrar David Schneider.

Kaden Griffin, a senior accounting major, said that Otterbein has only cancelled classes on three days during the entire four years he has been here. “Usually, it depends on each professor if they want to cancel class, but I have not seen the whole university cancel classes for a while," said Griffin.

The last three snow days were in February 2022.
