Men's basketball fights for the top spot in the OAC

The Otterbein men’s basketball team has to win their upcoming game against the University of Mount Union to get the top ranking in the OAC regular season.

Otterbein’s current OAC record is 8-1 while Mount Union’s is 8-2, with Otterbein’s only loss being the Raiders. Mount Union’s only losses are Ohio Northern and Heidelberg.

The Cardinals have been preparing just like they do for any other game. “Every team in the OAC is good and can beat you if you aren’t ready, so no matter who we play, we have to stick to the process that got us here and stay locked in,” said Mike Steel, a junior forward on the team.

Their main goal for this game is "to take control of the pace of the game and force them to play how we want to play,” said Steel.

Steel also emphasized their hard work on defense. “Our defense has been very good for us, so we have a heavy emphasis on our defensive intensity, which will lead to good offense,” said Steel.

The big game against Mount Union will be at the Rike Center on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.
