Only once have the Otterbein Cardinals softball team even gone to the OAC tournament, but this year is different. The 2016 edition of the Cardinals have dominated the league to the extent that they have clinched the number one seed in the OAC tournament with four games left in conference play.

After a long and winding 17 years, Head Baseball Coach George Powell has reached a milestone that only seven men had reached before him, his 400th win. On April 5 in Berea, the Cardinals blitzed the host Yellow Jackets for eight runs in the second inning and cruised the rest of the way to a 12-4 victory.

Much like the Otterbein softball team, the baseball team returned home from a week in Florida with their spirits high. The Cardinals opened their season with eight consecutive strikeouts against Division I foe Chicago State. After the inauspicious start, a two-out rally energized the team en route to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Cougars. It was the team's first victory over a D-1 school since 2011, although the team hasn't had any opportunities since then.

One year removed from last season's 2-6 record over spring break in Florida, the Otterbein softball team returned to Westerville with a sterling record. The Cardinals found a variety of ways to win games. Whether they were close, extra-inning affairs, or five-inning blowouts, the results were the same, an Otterbein victory.

Just one short season season ago, the Otterbein baseball team got off to its hottest start in recent history. The team took its traditional spring trip to Florida, and returned home after the week with a sparkling 9-1 record. Otterbein would ultimately push that start out to 11-1 before losing its final game heading into OAC play.

This upcoming week should bring about two major milestones for two Otterbein basketball players. Both senior Amariah Huck of the women's team and junior Jake Phillis of the men's team are nearing 1000 points in their respective careers.

Last Saturday at Memorial Stadium the Otterbein women's soccer team unleashed a record-setting performance against the Manchester Spartans of Indiana. Otterbein controlled the game from start to finish, beating the Spartans 9-0.

A concern that some have around the Otterbein campus is the seeming lack of fan and student attendance at various Cardinal sporting events. Otterbein has multiple facilities that many programs envy and would love to have for themselves, but there don't seem to be very many people attending games at the various venues.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Westerville, the Otterbein Lady Cardinal softball team split a crucial double header with OAC foe, Muskingum. After the split, Otterbein and Muskingum find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place in the OAC with John Carroll. Only one series remains for the three teams to determine who makes the OAC playoff.

Coming into Friday afternoon's doubleheader with Ohio Northern, the Otterbein softball team was running on three days rest, as rain had pushed the regularly scheduled for Wednesday games back to Friday. That may have been a little bit too much time off for the Cardinal hitters, as they found themselves trailing the Polar Bears 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In what seems to be a trend for the season, the bats came to life in the late innings, tallying four runs on four hits, a walk and a hit-batter. The big blow came on a two-out, two-run double from freshman Rachael Owens, tying the game at four.

After having their double-header pushed back to Monday, the Otterbein baseball team had eight days of rest to prepare for Baldwin Wallace. The rust from all the days off showed up in game one, as the Cardinals were shutdown 12-3, but bounced back in game two for a 7-3 win.

On a chilly Thursday afternoon in Westerville, the Cardinal baseball team had their hot start cooled off by the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. After trading runs early, the Bishops were able to use Cardinal errors to build an insurmountable lead, winning the game 14-5.

Wednesday afternoon marked the return home for the Otterbein baseball team. The Cardinals spent spring break in Florida, racking up a 9-1 record, before returning to Ohio, where they defeated La Roche to improve to 10-1, their best start in school history. On Wednesday, Otterbein played at Fishbaugh Field for the first time in 2015, recording a hard fought 10-9 victory over Wittenberg.

It was officially announced Thursday afternoon that Todd Adrian has resigned as men’s basketball coach at Otterbein. Adrian, who just completed his
third season at the helm, finished his tenure with an overall record of 15-63.

On a snowy Wednesday evening in Westerville, the Otterbein men's basketball team looked to stop a seven game losing streak against the visiting Blue Streaks of John Carroll. The team wasn't able to break the streak, as they fell to the Blue Streaks by a season worst deficit, 107-67.

The Otterbein men's basketball team came into Wednesday's game against the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University with the hopes that they could pick up a much needed win following their disappointing losses to Wilmington and Mount Union. They seemed to be on the right track after a quick start, but were unable to hold off the Polar Bears, as they dropped the OAC contest, 72-56, in the Rike Center.

On a cold and windy Wednesday night in Westerville, the Otterbein Lady Cardinals took the field against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets with hopes of reaching the OAC tournament
final for the first time since 2010. With a little added motivation on the line for the Cardinals, their
rival, the Capital Crusaders, advanced to the final earlier in the day with a
1-0 win against Ohio Northern. Capital ended Otterbein’s season last year with
a 1-0 win in the OAC semifinals.

The Otterbein Cardinal football team lost to Mount Union at home on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Raiders struggled early, but later succeeded in dismantling the Cardinals 66-7.

The Otterbein Lady Cardinals soccer team defeated Marietta 3-0 to clinch the outright OAC regular season title. The win pushes the Cardinals record to 11-2-4 and 7-0-1 in the OAC, extending their unbeaten streak to 12.
