The Otterbein women’s basketball team has jumped to a strong start to the 2011-2012 season with four combined wins at the Ohio Northern Classic and the Washington & Jefferson Tip-off Tournament and have a strong cast of returnees with experience to improve their record.

The fall sports are on the tail end of a long season. For starters the women volleyball team with their second straight NCAA bid will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to play 14th ranked Hope College. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday football will close out the 2011 season against a very weak Wilmington who stands at a 0-8 overall OAC record. Kick-off is set for 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Westerville, OH. That same day both men’s and women’s cross country will run in the at the Great Lakes Regional Meet at Oberlin College. The women will begin at 11 a.m. and the men will follow at noon.

This week in sports there will be some interesting matches with the season on the line. The volleyball team, coming off a win over Marietta in a OAC quarterfinal tournament game, will be traveling to Tiffin, Ohio to play Mount Union that is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. Saturday will belong to football coming off a 42-0 lost to Mount Union in the previous week; the Cardinals will look to bounce back against Marietta at home starting at 1:30 p.m.

This weekend the men’s soccer team is in a must-win game against Mount Union to have a bid for OAC playoffs after posting wins in the last two conference matches. The football team will travel to No. 1 ranked Mount Union for a gridiron battle after coming off their first conference win at Muskingum. The Women’s soccer team will also play host to the Raiders in an effort to further their records before tournament play begins. Both cross country teams will travel to Ohio Northern University for the OAC conference meet. Volleyball will finalize their regular season when they also visit Mount Union before they compete for an OAC title.

This weekend in sports Otterbein football will travel to Muskingum in search of a victory in the OAC beginning at 1:30 p.m. Men’s and Women’s soccer will also face the fighting Muskies at home. The women will look to keep their OAC dominance while the men are in search for a second conference victory. Volleyball will be looking to further their hot streak with a double header starting at 3 p.m. against Manchester College, then traveling to University of Mount St. Joseph, which is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Fall sports are in typical busy fashion this weekend. Football is having its first game under the lights in four years against Baldwin-Wallace in a game that could determine the direction of the remaining season. Men’s and Women’s soccer both travel to Baldwin-Wallace for their second conference showdown. Volleyball will play the Yellow-Jackets as well for their fourth OAC match. Women’s Golf will travel to Wittenberg for the Pat Clouse Invitational.

A successful summer of baseball ended even sweeter for Otterbein junior catcher Wes Meadows as Perfect Game USA named him the 13th-best prospect in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Aug. 29.
